Here we have a wonderful large painting, oil on Masonite, done in a very atmospheric style reminiscent of much earlier French paintings. In the painting there are wonderful tall trees, a river or large lake, and figures cavorting around the base of the trees. The painting may be allegorical. This is a very appealing painting of a bucolic scene in the country. It has everything going for it with a figure on horseback, a dog following the horse and rider, ducks in the pond. Painted in impressionistic style, the landscape looks soft and peaceful. Not terribly old I do not think...maybe 70's or 80's. The painting is a good size. The dimensions are 18" by 22" as framed.
