Late 18th century “Spring Picture” colored woodblock print, by the well known artist, Shuncho (active 1780-1800). 22cm/8.6in height and 34cm/9.5in length. There is damage in the upper right hand corner, which may be noticed by the missing calligraphy and the upper right hand corner where the screen was repainted-still, an attractive and original work.

Here we have a rather abstract etching, the subject of which is unknown to me, but I find that interesting to say the least. It could be fencing, city roofscapes, barbed wire or electronics...I don't know, but I'm endlessly fascinated nevertheless. The colors are soft greys and celedon and taupe, framed in a bronze metal frame. It is signed but the handwriting makes it difficult to understand. It is dated '81.
