Fine Walnut Footstool with Wonderful Turned Legs

This is just an outstanding little footstool, with lots of character and the most wonderful legs. The pictures will tell the story better than I can, but I believe it to be American, probably dating to around 1850-1860. It measures 15" square and is 18" tall. The top has an age crack that has been secured underneath. You will see how it was done in the enlargements. Vintage Japanese sudare, traditional bamboo and silk window shades. Sudare are commonly used from spring to autumn to shade sunlight, and are easily rolled up and held with decorative hooks. Dyed horse hair tassels accent the screens. The sudare are crafted from thin bamboo slats, with gold stitched silk borders. These shades originated from a Shinto temple in Western Japan.
