Handsome gun case, English walnut, late Victorian. The case has a recessed handle, brass corner brackets and recessed brass fittings. The stand is a contemporary addition, as is the interior lining. The box is 34" by 9 1/2" by 3 1/2" deep. Fitted into the stand it is 18" high. Excellent condition, it makes a wonderful chair side table. Provenance upon request.

This is a fine early oak English box, circa 1840, exquisitely carved on all sides and the top. The sides and back are carved in Gothic revival arches. The centerpiece of the box is a finely carved falcon head upon a cypher. The back has a carved cypher. The interior is slotted for correspondence and one divider is missing. This is surely one of the most interesting writing desks I've had. It is English or Scottish, 19th century and appears to be in original condition throughout. The desk is made of and inlaid with a variety of exotic woods and rosewood, ebony, burled walnut, mahogany and oak. The lions teeth are ivory. The interior has various compartments for ink and pens and even has a built in ruler, and to make it complete it comes with ink stains. The box has a lock and key but I have been unable to make... Simply exquisite glove box carved on all sides and the top to resemble basketweave. The top is decorated with vines and a bouquet of flowers that reaches from end to end. The carving of the flowers and stems and leaves is realistic and in high relief with a three dimensional rose as the centerpiece of the arrangement. It is marked on the bottom Switzerland 1858. Excellent small box of walnut(?)with a carved and stippled top in a design of oak leaves and acorns, surrounded by a carved "frame" of branches. The sides are reeded all around and the top has a lip by which to open and close the box. Everthing is right about this lovely little box...the hinge works perfectly, the corner seams are invisible, the top fits just right, and the wood is smooth as silk to the touch and has a mellow patina.
