Known as "isho dansu", this chest originates from the Nihonmatsu area of northern Japan, a region noted for distinctive, high-quality lacquered furniture. This tansu dates to the late Meiji-Period (c.1900), and is constructed of "sugi" (Japanese Cedar) and "matsu" (pine), and finished with a gorgeous deep red lacquer.
