Belt buckle in two parts, in the middle a apple green jade cabochon, the sides with pierced carving of rolled up dragon, one in white and the other in reddish brown jade. The gilded metal setting decorated with scroll work. Condition: Minor age wear, some wear to gilding. Dimension: 9,8 cm length, 3 cm width. Weight: 90 gram.

The thing about tenmoku iron-glazed wares is that they change dramatically according to the lightning. This unusual semi-circular Chinese opium box is finely crafted of paktong (“pai-tung” or “baitong”) and copper. Qing Dynasty, ca. 1860-1880. It is sheathed with a plain outer sleeve which fits over the entire inner box. The tight fitting lid of the inner box is decorated with a finely executed stylized bat in raised high relief design which pushes through a cut-out in the top of the outer sleeve. Two Chinese Song/Yuan dark brown glazed stoneware covered jars (guan) with rounded shoulders tapering to a slightly splayed unglazed foot and base. The covers bear prominent pearl-shaped finials. Traces of russet are visible at the top and bottom of the glaze and at the edge of the lid. Tiny frits in the lid of one jar reveal a gray body coated with a brown slip. There is a horizontal luting line apparent in the glazed interior. Circa 13th/14th century. 6 ¾” high x 4 ¾” diameter.

Dating to 1870 is this unusual Japanese netsuke. It was originally labeled as “Monk with Large Bell” by an antiques dealer. But, the figure has a ruffled collar and looks like an entertainer with a ball. The netsuke is signed by the artist and measures 1.5” (3.8 cm) x 1.5” (3.8 cm). Japanese antique carved wooden gong with striker, Taisho-Period (c.1920). Hand-carved in the shape of a koi fish, approximately 24 inches wide, 7 inches tall and 2 inches thick. Designed to be struck with the hammer shaped wooden striker. Good overall condition; indigo cloth on eyes and fins has largely worn off, and there are some chips in the paint, particularly on the bottom.
