An excellent Moche V figural vessel from Peru, ca. 550 - 700 AD. It is 7-1/2" high and is in the form of an old woman, portrayed seated, with her shawl wrapped around her. The eyes are closed, indicating an attitude of trance or prayer. Nicely detailed and beautifully painted. Intact.
See "Empires of Mystery", page 97, for a similar vessel, describing the figure as a healer.

An exquisite ceremonial vessel from the Narino Highlands of Colombia, Capuli cultural complex, ca. 850 – 1500 AD. The bowl has a 6-3/4” diameter and is supported on seven hollow mammiform legs containing rattles, each of which extends an inch beyond the rim. Beautifully decorated with black on cream resist designs and a red wash overlay. A truly rare specimen in perfect condition.

An awesome Quimbaya serpent effigy from the Middle Cauca region of Colombia, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This 4-3/4” high, hollow figure portrays an anaconda, which occupies an important position in the region’s mythology. The deeply carved zigzag pattern represents lightning, the incised dots represent the seeds of potential life. See “Ancient Art of the Andes”, page 140, for a similar example. Tip of tail reattached, else in exceptional condition.

An outstanding Moche I Mollusk stirrup vessel from Peru, ca. 300 – 100 BC. This delicate vessel is 7-1/2” high and 6” wide, painted overall in cream, with reddish-brown accent stripes in the incised grooves. This is a representation of the Spondylus shell, the most highly prized shell throughout Mesoamerican cultures. Perfect condition.

An awesome Jamacoaque priest from Ecuador, ca. 500 – 800 AD. He is 6-1/4” tall and is wearing a minutely detailed feather mantle and mask. An owl with outspread wings is perched on his head. Exquisite detailing, great gold and turquoise paint, functional whistle. Chip missing on back of headdress.

A fine San Sebastian style male, 12-3/4" tall, from Jalisco, ca. 200 BC - 300 AD. He is seated on the traditional two-legged stool, posed with the right hand held to his mouth (eating?). The left hand rests on his thigh. He is adorned with multiple ear ornaments and serrated hair braids. Nicely burnished red slip with manganese deposits. The legs are reattached.

A very nice Chimu olla from Peru, 6-1/4” diameter, ca. 1000 – 1450. This well formed blackware vessel features four molded panels, each showing a shaman performing a rain ceremony. Two adorable feline adornos appear to be climbing the sides of the vessel. Intact, nicely burnished.

A wonderful Late Nazca kero, 5-1/2” tall, 5-3/4” diameter, ca. 400 – 550 AD. Specifically this is an Okros vessel. Okros is a transitional phase that developed in the Province of Ayacucho and preceded the Huari development. This culture shows much of the late Nazca influence and style.
