A solid gold ring decorated with a pair of clasped hands, known as "Dextarum Iunctio".
The hands represented the legal sanctioning of a contract and the device was used as decoration on betrothal or wedding rings throughout the Roman period. By the 3rd Century AD, inscriptions were usually added either below or above the hands though the depiction remained the same.
A very good example of this type, with unusually clear hand depiction.
Roman, 1st or 2nd Century AD.
Intact.
