The first thing you notice if you pick up one of these Tibetan conch trumpets is the weight. It has definitely been petrified or fossilized. They are said to be found high in the Himalayas and on the Tibetan plateau, the result of continental drift.

Gilt bronze statue of Green Tara, 17th century Tibet. Small (4 inch height) but exquisitely crafted with finely detailed face and hands. The face retains traces of cold gold (paint) and the hair is the traditional blue. Excellent condition.

A BRASS PANDAN, INDIA, 17TH CENTURY. .

Pandan is the name for the container of the various constituents of ‘pan’, a sliver of betel nut applied with lime paste and wrapped in a betel leaf. The early pandans do not have any divisions inside and it is thought that they were for holding the ‘quids’ of prepared pan. The wheel is covered with deep red coral beads. Additional strands of coral beads and the turning weight are attached to a narrow leather strap which bands the center of the wheel. The handle was hand turned. Almost 12" hight and 5" in diameter, this old prayer wheel has seen many turns.

The bone beads are drum-shaped and inlaid with bits of coral and turquoise. Additional discs of metal are sometimes sandwiched between the bone beads. Prayer beads were hand held strands used for counting mantras during prayer. This strand is long enough to slip over the head easily and it makes a beautiful necklace. This is a wonderful old mala and it is in very good condition
