A charming japanese banko pottery tea pot modelled as a cottage and decorated with applied relief and enamel with birds and blossom. It has in impressed seal mark to the base.Dating from c.1900, it measures 5 1/2inches (14 cms) long. There are some chips to the edge of the lid and to one flower.

Abe Anjin(b.1938) is a Bizen ceramic artist outside the normal radar of Bizen fans. Yet, for hardcore fans he is a master Bizen potter and a must for any serious collection. A very finely potted semi eggshell porcelain cup and saucer beautifully painted in underglaze blue with bamboo in a typically asymetric Japanese style. A very unusual Japanese vase made from a light coloured pottery or stoneware in what is sometimes included in the Banko style. It is moulded with halo'ed immortals in reserves on a basket work ground.Probably made in the 2nd half of the C19th., it stands 5 5/8inches (14.2 cms) high. There is wear to the enamels and minor chips.

A very radical jar in form and particularly the design of a butterfly and beetle set against chrysanthemums and leaves made by Kayama Tetsuya(b.1954.) Takahara Shoji(1941-2000) was one of Bizen's veteran potters who started in the early 1960s when there were only a dozen or so potters; now there are said to be about 600. He studied with Okayama Intangible Cultural Treasures Ishii Furo(1899-1964) and Isezaki Yozan(1902-1961) before establishing his own kiln in 1962. Japanese antique angled tansu chest, similar to a kaidan dansu or step chest. Meiji-Period (c.1900). Thoroughly cleaned and waxed, beautiful dark patina. Fair to good condition; separations in the panels of the doors and angled top due to contraction of the wood planks. Typical wear and tear associated with a century of use.
