Bizen sake cup, incredible character and life. Deep charcoal grays, very pronounced texture - a real pleasure to hold. It will undoubtably add a new dimension to any sake. Two tiny, ball pen point size chips to the rim. The cup is the work of Shibaoka Nobuyoshi. He has been the recipient of 30 plus awards over the span of his career. A late Meiji or possibly Taisho era Daruma picture book. Signed and stamped Seinan on the first and last pages. Exhibiting 13 different double page sumie (charcoal) paintings of the mystical zen figure Daruma undergoing his transformation and enlightenment. Powerful brushwork, wonderful lines. Structurally in good condition but exhibiting a fair amount of spotting. The book measures 13 inches by 9 inches and is 1.25 inches thick.

Late Meiji era scroll depicting a Japanese nightingale perched amongst blooming Botan flowers - a lone bee provides focus above the flowers. A lovely painting, signed Matsunoso (or Shounoso) both on the picture and the inside of the original kiriwood box. The picture has yellowed considerably over the years. Even, yet unpronounced spotting is present. The silk framing is in reasonable condition with one damaged section (see pics). It measure 80 inches in lenght and 21 across.

A beautiful Bizen Kake Hanaire (hanging vase). It's signed Matsushima Tsutomu on the box and bears his signature on the vase. He was born in 1937 and currently resides in Bizen. He has won a total of 8 recognised ceramic awards, including the prefectural award. Some of his pieces reside in smaller, private museums. A fine piece from a fine potter - exhibiting classic Bizen yaki characteristics. It stands 4.5 inches high and measures 4 across.

Painted by Kanou Dougyoku in the 6th year of the Bunsei era (1823) in March. Dougyoku died in approximately 1828 at age 70. He is most commonly known as Shikibu, in the final stages of his life he changed his name to Kageyama Tai. He is the son of Kanou Eishou. Dougyoku's signature and stamp appear at the bottom of the scroll. The calligraphy and stamp at the top of the scroll are the work of Tangai, another well known artist of the period. Beautifully and thickly embossed with Mandarin Ducks. They were created using a combination of metals, not merely cast and painted. The wake of the pond has been carved into the bronze vase.
