Most Korean antiques we listed belong to our friend in Hong Kong whose Japanese godfather just passed away. He was a collector of Korean ceramics. He traveled extensively around the world to look for antique Korean ceramics. Our friend inherited this nice and genuine collection from his godfather who spent much effort to build it in his lifetime. An extremely rare and fine Korean Choson dynasty, 19th century underglaze copper red on blue ground octagonal jar. It was finely painted with a chrysan... Click for details

The open scars of this splendid tea bowl expose a coarse clay that reveals its rustic origins. Ido chawan used to be made as rice bowls for peasants, in Korea, centuries ago. They later gained the admiration of Japanese tea ceremony masters, who lauded their simple beauty. This particular piece is very masculine in design and in character, as its unhealed wounds, proudly displayed, seem to bear witness to a turbulent life.
