We are all familiar with Isidro Pina's Maricela book-piece brooches or his fabulous pin and earrings sets but how many times do we actually bump into a necklace bearing that signature? So you understand how thrilled I am to be presenting the necklace at hand - an absolute surrpise and breath-taking at that. But for its delicately elegant proportions, I would have expected this to be an Antonio piece or signed by one of the other modernists in Taxco...

Vintage mid-century mod Mexican silver cuff bracelet, this piece is a veritable ode to the sublime nature of minimalism. I adore the perfection of the curve, the heftiness of the architectural band, the fantastic patina. We don't know much about Taxco's Arte en Plata yet but I think the "arte" in their name is well-deserved. The cuff measures 6 1/2" inner circumference (including the 1 1/4" gap; perfect for smaller to medium wrists) and 7/16" in width and thickness...

Today I am offering this signed Antonio Pineda archer cuff being 2.5in. tall and weighing 125 grams heavy. The cuff is most certainly a statement piece and certain to be gazed upon. The hunting scene is Lascaux inspired. The archers are cut out of the top layer of silver with niello being on the underneath layer of silver giving a shadow box effect. I am also listing the matching necklace to this bracelet. Please look at all the pictures as it is shown with the cuff.

The bracelet dates c. 1970, and measures 3/16 inch wide, with a diameter of 2 ½ inches and an internal circumference of about 7 ¾ inches. Weight: 20.8 grams

A middle period work by Los Castillo, I love the design of this bracelet because of the way its flowing loops and bead motif belies its substantial weight. In the style closely associated with Enrique Ledesma yet signed by one of his contemporary Taxco maestros this stunning sterling silver necklace and earrings set epitomizes the slick modernism of Mexico’s mid-century. Margot Van Voorhies was definitively the finest female designer from the Mexican Silver Renaissance. This repousse clamper is carved exquisitely and undulates with the reverse repousse. The fish is 4 inches tall and has a weight of 115 grams. Turn the fish around and the silver tapers to 1.25in. in the back for comfort. Due to the age of these clampers many suffer from metal fatigue and have lost their "snap". We have given this clamper a new spring so it is ready for another 50 years...

Unusually romantic for Antonio Pineda, this is one of his sweetest designs that can easily be worn by a young lady which is not always the case with his jewelry. There is something very gentle and delicate about this piece but traces of Antonio's "punch" can be discerned if one looks really closely - in the night blue / purple of the goldstone that truly resembles a night sky with its myriad of sparkling specks; in the modernist layering of the heart pendant and, of course, in the single, gliste...

Among Gerardo Lopez's most collected clamper designs, I love to refer to this specific creation as his "flames" bracelet because of the way the repousse rises in vivacious twists and twirls. Classic 1960s Sigi Pineda Mexican silver modernist brooch in a design that looks to me like an angelfish albeit rendered in the most minimalist fashion. I consider Sigi's "niello" line one of the most inspired periods in his admittedly long and prolific career.
