Though mainly of 18th century origin, this chest has experienced many alterations and repairs, including a 20th century plywood potty covering. A white pidgeon perches on a discarded or fallen roof tile decorated with calligraphy by Miyanaga Tozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 9 inches (23 cm) tall and in excellent condition. I believe this is likely by the second generation.

Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) titled “Samurai with an Umbrella” by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). The print is pencil-signed with the artist's red seal, dated ’82, and numbered 34/50. The bottom right corner has a small "80" in pencil. Paper size: 20 1/4" x 13 1/2." Very good, clean overall condition. A tiny pencil notation with a prior owner's name "Hansen" is on the back bottom edge.
