An early Taxco maestro, Manuel Altamirano worked for both Aguilar and Valentin Vidaurreta. With the former, he shares what has come to be known as the "armadillo" parure, out of which you can see here the quite impressive belt buckle. Evocative of the “armor plates” covering the body of the namesake creatures, the buckle's links are graduated in size and adorned with short, flat-topped round appliques...
Good early Mexican Deco silver repousse jewelry is becoming harder to find - I don't know if it's because there weren't that many to begin with (quite often repoussage from that period seems a little clumsy, the technique needing additional experimenting with) or that at some point their popularity grew so much that they were "scooped up" from the market. Whatever the case, I am thrilled to be presenting this fantastic cuff bracelet with two saturated purple amethyst cabs here...

English George IV sterling silver wine jug, London, 1829, by silversmith Benjamin Preston. Size: 9 3/8 in. ht. x 7 1/2" x 5 in. 23.3 Troy ounces. An attractive and substantial hot water or wine jug, adorned with applied acanthus leaf motifs and repousse work. and supported on three scrolled feet. Engraved with family monogram in a cartouche, and with later presentation from 1928 on base. Nice condition but with a single push in on the underside where one foot attaches.
English inlaid Tunbridgeware pocket watch holder, for the suspended display of a single pocket watch. Late 19th or early 20th century. Made from rosewood and exotic wood veneers, with an inlaid frieze of scrolling foliage running round the base. Nice condition.

A Royal Vienna style porcelain coffee cup and saucer, with raised gilding on a lavender glaze and featuring a hand-painted scene of a goddess and cherub. Late 19th or early 20th century. Under glaze blue beehive mark. Size: 4.75 in. diameter x 2.25 in. ht.
Leaping green fish soar up the sides over tempestuous crackled celadon waves crashing over the matte blue of this exquisite Mizusashi fresh water container by Sawada Sozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It comes with a pottery lid as well as a black lacquered lid (Kaebuta). It is 18 cm (7 inches) tall, 13 cm (5 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Sawada Sozan (1881-1963) was born in Kyoto and graduated the Tokyo School of Fine Arts...
