Wonderful + one-of-a-kind … Andrée Bazot was one of the most creative enamellists of the post-WWII period. Her freeform, glossy enamel designs, in vibrant color palettes, possessed a fabulous joie de vivre—and each was one-of-a-kind. Decorating the final enamel layer with 18K gold trailings, these works were always sensual and feminine. This divine pair of Bazot earrings is no exception. Featuring yellow and orange foil enamel over copper, with raised glass frits or cookies fused to the surface,... Click for details

This superbly fired and mu-ly formed Bizen vase is by living legend Mori Togaku and dates to 1975, the only year Mori signed his works with a M, seen on the side and base. It has a rich 'clay flavor' in dark rusty red and crispy browns with great stone bursts--ishihaze--seen all about. It has an intense energy to it in its simplicity; only Mori, Harada and Abe are capable of this. In perfect condition with a signed box, 25.5cm.tall, a museum piece.

The Japanese word 'hin' is very important when viewing art. Basically it means 'dignity' or 'grace' and one says, 'hin ga aru' or 'it has hin' when viewing a work, or even a person. Hamanaka Gesson's(b.1943)creations are full of hin, whether it be chawan, guinomi or shokki-tableware. Hamanaka lives in Hagi where he studied with Yoshika Taibi(1915-1991) before setting up his own kiln in 1969; he has exhibited worldwide. In 1976 he started using Shigaraki clay blended with Hagi for his Hagi wares ... Click for details

A nicely done arrow pin with a well - designed, slight center indentation that gives it dimension and also catches the light when worn. Most arrow pins I see are flat, but this artist's attention to detail gives the arrow a little depth and makes it a much better piece. The curvature also makes the pin "hug" your garment for a more attractive appearance.
Another nice touch, not appreciated until worn, is that the pinback doesn't run from tip to tip. That, along with the curve of the arrow, m... Click for details

At a glance one can see only one ceramic artist could have made this piece, Uetake Satoshi(b.1956). Such is his unique voice with clay and design, for which he is consistently shown at Japan's most prestigious juried exhibitions. This vase would only hold a small single flower, and even without a flower it has a graceful presence; in perfect condition with a signed box, 27.5cm.tallx9.5x7, a good desk size.
