This fantastic piece looks like a flower button that has just opened with a burst of energy; without doubt the creative vitality of its maker: Suzuki Goro. The bud looking vessel is finely adapted for its function as a vase, and the Yashichida style of pottery, which is an ideal medium for the potter, lends its colors and motifs well to the work. Yashichida is a decorative style of Oribe ceramic which was popular during the Momoyama period (1573-1603) and the beginning of the Edo period (1603... Click for details

This very attractive hanaire (vase) by Suzuki Goro, stands tall and shows off the creative attributes of the potter’s wheel genius. It is made in the Oribe tradition, born of the same soil as the artist, in the ancient Mino province of Japan (current Aichi prefecture). The organic quality of the colors and the texture and the marks on its body, give movement and life to the pottery, which seems to be growing before our eyes, like a spirited bamboo tree. The holes made by hand at the top of th... Click for details

This intriguing guinomi (sake cup) is a rare piece made with clay from the island of Hawai, by Suzuki Goro, who once again has pushed back the limits of his creativity and knowledge of his craft. The darker tones of the cup echo the volcanic nature of the clay. While a vibrant yellow erupts out of the vessel, the calm and empty kodai (foot) is the expression of infinite potential whence new life can come forth. The extremes complete the expression of that tropical microcosm.
Suzuki Goro is a... Click for details

Black raku-yaki chawan (tea bowls) are some of the most mystical vessels in Japanese pottery. Born of the cooperation between Sen-no-rikyu, a Buddhist monk and tea master, and Chojiro, a Kyoto potter, the black bowl can be regarded as one of the cardinal chalices of the tea ceremony. This particular chawan has a very interesting shape, with the characteristic go-zan (five mountains) shaped mouth, in reference to the five main Zen temples of Kyoto (Tofuku-ji, Tenryuji, Shokokuji, Kenninji and M...
