Enigmatic figures rise from concave discs on the front of this massive Tenmoku Vase by modern sculptural artist Ohi Toshiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The gourd shaped form is covered in a mottled red Kaki-yu spotted with flashes of black. The smooth evenly graduated sides contrast with the sharp rough edge of the opening, both surprising and pleasing. Signed clearly on the base, the vase is 14 inches (36 cm) tall, 9-1/2 inches (24 cm) diameter and in perfect condition. Tosh... Click for details

Ajiki is well-known for his Basara salt-glazed checkered chawan and even the MET in NYC acquired one a few years ago. Each one is unique and we have two recently fired ones to offer. The first one is rounder and fuller with some ash glaze in the pool that most likely dripped from the kiln ceiling, a very fortuitous signal from the kiln gods! In perfect condition with a signed box, 10cm.tallx11.5; more abo... Click for details

This attractive guinomi (sake cup) was made by a Karatsu master potter named Nakano Tochitobo, born in 1916, at the Nakano kiln, a well known and old Karatsu kiln, which was established by Matsushima Yagoro. The Nakano lineage of... Click for details
