The spout on this guinomi is not for pouring yet merely a decorative aspect; it's called a katakuchi guinomi and this one was made by the late great Shigaraki legend Furutani Michio. About 15 years ago he did a katakuchi only exhibition at a gallery in Tokyo and I believe this piece dates to that period. It's from a local collection and has never been used. The lovely hi-iro fire color will greatly change over time with use. In perfect condition, 5.5cm.tallx8.1cm.from spout to back, signed on si... Click for details

This intriguing piece, which may seem unreal and familiar at the same time, is a “nabe”, a large pot used in Japan to boil and cook vegetables, meats and fish. In general, it is placed in the middle of the table and everyone in turn picks up food from the pot as it is cooked. This particular nabe was made by a well known potter named Takauchi Shugo. The artistic spirit that has taken possession of this household item can be sensed in the elegant, white forms of the pot which seems to be float... Click for details

Although Koie Ryoji now works mostly in Gifu prefecture he was born and raised in Tokoname, where he still maintains a home and kiln. The anagama kiln is now used mostly by Koie's son, yet on occasion Koie does place some works in it, not that often now though. That's what makes this chawan kind of rare, it has a lot of character, like the man himself. In perfect condition with a signed box, 7.5cm.tallx12.3x11.2, signed ryo on side.

From a recent Mayu-Cocoon series by the celebrated Tamba ceramic artist Ichino Masahiko(b.1961), this petal-pod form expresses birth and renewal. Each petal was hand built and then placed together to form the piece; each petal is hollow and thus the work is quite light. Ichino glazed each piece in his signature butterscotch-copper contrasted with black, etched and with subtle drippings and texture. The work should be displayed at or near eye-level as to allow light to dance in between the 'petal... Click for details
