A powerful Mimitsuki Karatsu Mizusashi by Nakagawa Jinembo (Jinenbo b. 1953) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Vicious white glaze, deeply fissured, supplants the fawn brown of the back, all over a very rough red clay filled with shiseki stones. The piece breathes energy, vivacious and playful it is a pleasure to view and use. The lid is similarly glazed, with hakeme brush marks inside. The piece is roughly 7 inches (18 cm) tall, the same diameter and in perfect condition. Jinembo... Click for details

If you happen to appreciate good sake and you want to drink with style and in the right way--who drinks champagne from a paper cup--then a Bizen sake cup-guinomi is imperative 'equipment.' For a traditional form and classic firing there's no need to look much farther then the Nakamura family. Their specialty is sake vessels. Some potters in Bizen specialize in jars or vases, etc....for the Nakamura family, starting with the late great Rokuro, it's how to enjoy sake using a fine Bizen vessel. Rok... Click for details

Ezaki Issei(1918-1992) is a ceramic artist that reshaped the ancient potting center of Tokoname during the mid 20th century; more about this very important potter can be read in our archives. Here is a classic Ezaki tsubo that shows his prized green ash-glaze and a fine, sandy clay; the way Ezaki controlled the glaze in the kiln and the way it created a two-tone facade reminds me of a dry Zen landscape garden. Very sublime indeed. In excellent condition--two teeny and impossible to see restorat... Click for details

Our June featured exhibition is of new works by porcelain ceramic artist Ono Kotaro. First, a bit about
Ono(b.1953); winner of the 4th Mashiko Ceramics Competition
Hamada Shoji Prize, he creates sleek, sharp porcelain wares. Yet,
what is unique about Ono is that his porcelain has two sides to
its character: at first glance, his wares look crisp and cool,
like fallen snowdrops. Yet at the same time, he has instilled in
his works a delicate, warm glow that is not often found in
porcelain wa... Click for details
