Fantastic Shino Ware tea bowl with great feel. It has a design featuring mountains and pine trees which symbolize longevity. The bowl has a milky-white glaze showing ash marks in the glaze. Japanese Sake cup - Hagi ware with box - Beautiful blue glaze work of Seigan Yamane. The cup has the maker's signature mark stamped on the bottom. Height: 2.0" (5 cm). Diameter: aprox 2.5" (6.5 cm). Condition: The cup has a chip in the edge cover by the glaze, apparently made during the manufacturing process (please, see photos).

Bizen "Hidasuki" Sake set (tokkuri and ochoko) with box.
Condition: very good. Height(tokkuri):5.25" (13.4 cm). Width: 3.25" (8.3 cm). Weight: 1.23 lb (560 grm).
To make hidasuki ware, pieces are wrapped in straw soaked in brine (salt water) and placed into saggars prior to firing. During the firing process, the straw burns away, leaving a 'flash' of sodium vapor on the surface of the pot, which causes a slight glaze formation. Taiki Matsunaga was born in 1955 in Nagoya, Japan. Nagoya is located in the prefecture of Aichi, home of the Seto ceramics. After having studied ceramics in high school, Taiki furthered his studies at a ceramic school in the city of Seto, and in 1985 opened his own atelier in the city of Tajimi, birth place of Mino ceramics. Taiki has been a frequent guest at the Kuroda Toen gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, where many promising potters expose their works.
