From April 1st to June 30th of this year Koie Ryoji had an invited museum exhibition at the Paramita Museum in Mie prefecture. Koie, a world ceramic star as many know, displayed many forms including chawan, vases, porcelain 'records' and various ceramic sculptures. In one room there were also 100 Oribe tsubo that Koie made this year, all of them. A stylish faceted piece by Toita Takatsugu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A milk white glaze thinly veils the rough dark clay, windows of dark brown showing through about the base and side. It appears to have been formed on a wheel, then shaped, with standing flanges where the sides were cut away. The chunky piece is just less than 8 inches (20 cm) tall, and is in perfect condition. Takatsugu was born in Toyama in 1943, and began his training at the age of 23 under Yoshida Kozo,... Click for details

A Nezumi-Shino tea bowl by Shino Artist Nakajima Masao (1922-present); the daring lines and rugged texture, in addition to the bold geometric patterns visible through the thick, pitted red glaze make this bowl quite outstanding. The artists’ stamp is impressed beside the Kodai, and it comes in the original signed and stamped wooden box. The large bowl measures 5 inches (13 cm) in diameter, just over 3 inches (8 cm) to the rim and is in perfect condition, reminiscent of the famous Momoyama peri... Click for details

This intriguing piece, which may seem unreal and familiar at the same time, is a “nabe”, a large pot used in Japan to boil and cook vegetables, meats and fish. In general, it is placed in the middle of the table and everyone in turn picks up food from the pot as it is cooked. This particular nabe was made by a well known potter named Takauchi Shugo. The artistic spirit that has taken possession of this household item can be sensed in the elegant, white forms of the pot which seems to be float... Click for details
