A thick sided gosu Mentori Chawan by Kawai Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The bowl is quite large, with deeply sculpted sides covered in rose with iron rim and base. Inside is crackled white with some infusion of color with use. The box is a dome-lidded Shiho kiri box of fine quality, titled and signed within. A deep Hada-kujira Tsutsu Chawan by Koie Ryoji (b. 1938) enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating circa 1990. The blended terracotta clay is drawn up and scraped, enigmatic marks scratched into the sides, then dipped in a pale glaze and draped with iron at the rim. The speckled Hada-kujira is a Ryoji specialty. The bowl is 4-3/4 inches 812 cm) diameter, 3-3/4 inches (10 cm) tall and in perfect condition.
