Suzuki Tomio is, in my opinion, one of the best Shino potters in Japan. In spite of the difficulty of making Shino ware, which has a very high loss rate, he has proven to be one of its masters. Hoshi Masayuki's works always have a simple elegance about them in form and 'clay flavor.' Hoshi studied with Mori Togaku starting in 1979 after studying philosophy at Joshi University in Tokyo. This fuka-bachi deep bowl shows Hoshi's 'zen spirit' and also the warm beauty of clay; a divine piece for the table. In perfect condition, 10.5cm.tall and 23cm.across. Fantastic Shino Ware tea bowl with great feel. It has a design featuring mountains and pine trees which symbolize longevity. The bowl has a milky-white glaze showing ash marks in the glaze.
