When Malcolm works to create his extruded forms there are many pieces of clay that have been trimmed from other works. Malcolm’s process allows him to recognize the new creative possibilities for these available sections taken from forms he is creating. This piece, created from pieces trimmed from other forms was placed in the firebox during firing. The resulting sculpture shows deep brown colors and has ash deposits that have started to run. This piece can be positioned in different orientation... Click for details

This is another of Peter’s flask forms and shows further variation on his approach to creativity with this simple but powerful form. The front and back have been scored and decorated with a freely articulated pattern of diamonds and stars. The pattern unifies the interaction between the clay body and the natural ash glaze in blue and white. 14.5h x 8.5w x 7.25”d (36.8 x 21.6 x 18.4cm)

In this covered box Tim exploits the textural as well as color variations that dance over the surface of this piece. These effects are the result of working with and firing a local unrefined clay body. When the top is removed, the brilliant orange clay offers another variation on the theme. 6h x 9w x 7.25”d (15.2 x 22.9 x 18.4cm)

Like his large plate, this smaller version combines Willi’s cornstalk ash glaze with creek clay glazed lip running to the center. The glazes have a very fine and detailed texture reminiscent of Chinese rabbit’s fur glaze. The overall effect is very meditative as the eye is drawn to the pale blue center of focus. With artist’s stamp. 12.75 diameter x 2.25”h (31.3 x 5.7cm)

Jeff believes a strong form is the essential starting point for his creative work and this large bucket shows its importance. While a Shino glaze might enhance any piece, it comes alive when given the ample surfaces of this form. The classic interactions of pinks, white and black are all here, but they gain from their application to this forceful form. Signed by the artist. 9.5h x 12” diameter (24.1 x 30.4cm)
