A very personal work by celebrated porcelain master Kato Iwao (1930-1987) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A peony (botan) has been engraved in the side, blue leaves on pale blue porcelain forming a crisp, yet soft atmosphere, like morning snow. The vase is 7-1/2 inches (19 cm) tall, 6 inches (15 cm) diameter. We have been long searching after a larger vessel by Morihiro, and at last we have found one to offer. This is a peculiarly shaped vessel decorated with swirling designs in a fractured circle layed over impressed clay and enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The form is quite unique, the split circle motif actually falling from the center around the mouth to form the opposite side. Kanzaki Shiho(b.1942) is a living legend for Shigaraki-Iga and he's known around the world with works in major museums. An attractive and well-sculpted modern, bottle-shaped vase of Bizen-ware. The body of the vase tapers upward to end in a short neck w. a small mouth. The rounded sides are rendered in broad and roughly carved bands running anti-clockwise. The colour of the piece changes from redish brown over grey to a dark metallic brown w. minute specks of lighter coloured material. Artist’s mark in the bottom: Shibuta. Document for the piece. A beautiful drop-shaped vase w. a small irregular mouth made of a light type of fajance. The body is covered in a delicately mottled and beautifully toned glaze that ranges from a light greyish green over a pale green to a deep sap green in slanted, left-turning bands.
