This rare little gem is made by Morihiro Hosokawa (b. 1938) who served as the prime minister of Japan from 1993 to 1994.
He is also the head of the Kumamoto-Hosokawa clan, one of the noble families of Japan...
Kaneshige Toyo is no doubt one of the most important Japanese potters in 20 century and the first Bizen artist to be awarded with Living National Treasure title in 1956.
He is considered as the founder of modern Bizen pottery and at the same time he is known for successfully recreating the sheen of Momoyama Bizen pottery.
