Ash-glaze blasted with fire color of foggy green and yellow shizen yu glaze, shell props on the side, allowing us a view into the firing as it lay on its side in the kiln, the molten ash building up on the opposite side and following gravity down in streams. A sumptuous work exploiting the best Shigaraki pottery has to offer...

Ceramics decorated by Zen monks are seldom seen and this piece is no exception. A single character is boldly brushed in red enamel on gohonte tea bowl conveying the strong bond between Zen and the tea ceremony. Ceramics artist Kojima Naoki (b. 1962) works in Sogen Kiln located in the town of Karatsu creating his pieces entirely from earth and natural colours.

Wow! Here is a radical piece from deep in the embers of Sugimoto Sadamitsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled simply Iga Hanaire. It is utterly simplistic in form with dramatic and complex kiln effect born from placement and the inferno.
