Takeuchi Shingo(b.1955) hails from Seto city, one of the oldest ceramic production centers in Japan. He studied at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramics Research Facility until 1979, then under the great Kato Shuntei II before establishing his own kiln in 1982...

This large, textured and incised Iga wood fired vessel is by multi-talented artist, Ohira Kazumasa (b.1943). This vase measures 15" tall and 7" at its widest and is in original condition with heavy texturing along the sides and incised decoration and ginirodori style overglaze on either side of the piece. The piece comes with its original signed wood box and was made for an exhibition in the late 1990's.

My Australian friend nailed it when he looked at this Tsujimura Shiro tsubo and emphatically declared: Bro that is crusty as….
Shiro is known for his lopsided forms and ash encrustation, and this vessel does not disappoint. It is 18 cm (7 inches) diameter, roughly the same height and in excellent condition, enclosed in the original signed wooden box.
Tsujimura Shiro was born in Nara in 1947, and began his steps into the art world as an oil painter in 1965...

Very nice set of small kaiseki or sushi plates from the Bishu-gama kiln made by Bizen potter Yamamoto Soshu (Munehide).

Each small plate is in perfect condition, measures 3.75" x .75" and is cleared marked on the reverse and has a bota-mochi style decoration on the face of each piece. No box.

An iconic work covered in pale earth-tones and decorated with energetic graffiti on the surface by Fukami Fuminori enclosed in the original signed wooden box Titled Yahichida Manga Oribe Chawan. Inside the bowl the artist has scribbled an Image of Daibutsu (Hotoke), this is a characteristic of this artist’s work, and this bowl is a fine example.

A pair of iron glazed, paddled (tataki) teabowl, both with hand cut feet. The left chawan glazed in temmoku with a tetsu-yu glaze over and the right bowl glazed in an alkaline clear with my saffron, iron yellow glaze over. Both bowls are tabi-chawan style and feel good in the hand.

Elegant Hagi chawan with white to faint lavender ash glaze over slip and daido clay body. Classic turned foot, kodai with cut notch and impressed seal.

Though marked, I have been unable to read the seal and identify the potter. What I can say is this chawan is definitely post-war, circa 1960 -1970 and very much resembles the works of Sakakura Shinbei XII and Saka Koraizaemon XII from that time period.

This bowl measures 5" X 3.25" and is in great condition. No Box.

If you are familiar with the work of Hiramatsu Ryoma you know that he creates very unconventional ceramics inspired by forms found in nature. Here we have a set of sake cups he describes as “Ou-tekko” (pyrite) and “Ammonite” (same in English - a kind of sea fossil). Part of a series he has been developing, the ancient Ammonite fossil has been the inspiration behind his latest creations. Pyrite, meanwhile refers to the metallic patterning on the outer surface of the clay body...

Very nice boxed Aka-Raku chawan with black reduction accents on the face of the bowl by an unidentified potter, circa 1990.

This chawan is in excellent condition, measures 5" X 3.5" and comes with its signed boxed.

Though I could not identify this potter, the box seal and seal on the chawan are an exact match. What I can say is that this is not an apocryphal mainline raku chawan and is not by Sasaki Shoraku, Ohi Choraku or some of the other usual suspects. Priced accordingly.

An incredible piece by legendary Abe Anjin in the artists most sought after style of saishoku colors intimating leaves, blossoms and Mount Fuji (all strikingly disproportionate to each other) enclosed in the original signed wooden box and original lacquered wooden box also stamped by the artist...
