Kamada Koji specializes in temmoku pottery in Kyoto. He studied with Shimizu Uichi and has had his own kiln since 1971. This beautiful little koro ( incense burner for tea ceremony ), is a wonderful example of his work. Approximately 2 3/4" tall and wide, perfect condition with a signed box.

Black Shiseki inclusions burst through the white glaze covering this thickly potted Tsubo by Kimura Morinobu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A hint of green ash dusts the shoulder and flavors the rim. The Tsubo is very tactile, the texture pleasant to see and feel. It is 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and in excellent condition.

This very nicely carved and shaped guinomi (sake cup) with a fine firing was made by Togawa Hiroyuki, an excellent potter not well known stateside. His works are always inventive, well-crafted and fired. His name and seal are on the side of the original wood box and his mark is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.

This nicely fired small Mashiko style tokkuri (sake pourer) with red over glazed enamel designs was made by Hamada Tomoo, the grandson of the great Living National Treasure Hamada Shoji, through his father Hamada Shinseki. Tomoo has become a noted potter in his own right. Tomoo has worked to revitalize the Mashiko tradition with newer, more original works, such as this tokkuri. This fine small guinomi (sake cup) with a very nice crusty firing was made by Osawa Tsuneo (b. 1962). Osawa is well known in Japan and has exhibited in many galleries and department stores. He has also been entered in many prestigious exhibitions and awarded many prizes. It is 2 1/4" high and 2" wide from the widest part. This very finely fired dark guinomi (sake cup) with a nice color spot on the side was made by one of the best of the younger generation of Bizen potters, Miyao Masahiro. Along with Wakimoto Hiroyuki and Yokoyama Naoki, he is one of the Young Lions of Bizen. It is 2 1/2" high and 2 1/4" in diameter. The artist name and seal are on the top of the original wood box; his name is on the bottom of the sake cup. It is in excellent condition.

A wonderful example of the beauty of the pottery made by one of the most famous Japanese potters: Shimaoka Tatsuzo (1919-2007).

Shimaoka Tatuzo, who worked and lived in the town of Mashiko, studied with legendary potter Hamada Shoji (1894-1978) and was recognized as a National Living Treasure in 1996 for his Jomon Zogan technique.

A humble chawan (tea bowl) made in the Shino style of pottery by a potter named Kato Toyuki.

The fine crackled white glaze softly envelops the vessel, while the central underglaze marking, that seems to come out of an ancient sutra, gives it a mysterious air.

The chawan is in very good condition; it presents one small crack that was made during firing (see picture 11)...

Tatsu Hiko is fro Okayama -- the heart of the Bizen ceramic art. He has won many awards, and is well known. This mizusashi ( water container for cha no yu ) is about 10" tall ( or maybe a bit taller ), and shows nice firing. There is a small chip to the lid ( see images ) otherwise excellent condition, with signed box and papers.
