Every facet is unique on this natural torn shape by Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaike ‘Honoka’ or Fire Flower. It is much like a flower in clay, rising up from the bulb, the flowers placed into it the extension of the stalk. It is 32.5 cm (12-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

Like the previous Shizen-yu work, this shows a state of nature, not a state of intent, as if the piece came to be. It is this sense of raw elementalism which puts Japanese pottery apart, and gives it its unique place of reverence in world ceramics...

A very large Tsubo by pottery legend Tsujimura Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shizen-yu O-Tsubo (Natural Ash Glazed Large Tsubo). Spectacular keshiki resulting from the combination of multiple kiln affects and textures. This is one not to be missed, and one we will be hard pressed to let go.

A black cloak is draped from the shoulders of this mysterious character lurking in the shadows of the tea room by legendary potter Higashida Shigemasa enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hikidashi-kuro Chawan. Matte over much of the surface, The dark glaze trails off near the base, revealing a startlingly white clay. The contrast is both abrupt and challenging, creating a tension most welcome on an otherwise subtle work...

Hasegawa Tohaku and his legendary cedar are revived after four centuries on the pale glaze of this Hagi Mizusashi by Saka Koraizaemon XII enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled, very humbly, Hagi Mizusashi . The form is both urban and reminiscent of the wicked crags of mountains around Hagi, studded with pine and cedar and shrouded in mist...

A quintessential new work like a fossilized egg using lacquer on Pottery by Tanoue Shinya enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kara-wan Tai (Empty Shell,fetus ). It has a wide, rounded form which is surprisisngly pleasant to hold, and the Makie decorating the rim is pleasing to the lips. The shape allows for a very stable silhouette, which seems to anchor itself to whatever surface it rests upon...

Exquisite kiln effects mark this Ujoyaki Tsubo by Imai Rikei from Aomori Prefecture enclosed in the original signed wooden box named Zuiha (Swirling wave). It is 33 cm tall, 29 cm diameter and in excellent condition. Imai Rikei was born in Aomori Prefecture in 1947, and fires in the Ujoykai traditional manner making use of the worlds longest climbing kiln (guiness book of world records, 103 meters long, you can see it on youtube)...

A traditional open mouthed Tsubo by Tsujimura Yui enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shizen-yu Hirokuchi (Wide mouth) Tsubo. Very much what we would expect from this youthful star, molten ash, bidoro, goma, green glass,kutsuki and Shiseki. A beautiful and excellent example of this young artist work...

Here another igneous work,shows a state of nature by Tsujimura Yui enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shizen-Yu Maru Chawan. The rivers of green glaze flow with the delicate textures in the surface,it is slightly elongated, the shape creating both a tension in the form and an engaging vocabulary to the palms of the holder, making it an easy bowl to drink from.
