Enlarging is a must! Beautiful as all Georgian chains are, we were thrilled to see the braided, entwined tightness and sturdiness of these 15kt gold textured links. Long chains were worn by men and women. Often worn dropping to the waist, doubled, and in combination with numerous other jewels, the wealthy added a large brooch, multiple rings and large earrings. The golden clasp on this chain is a jewel on its own. It is fashioned as a hand with a ruffled floral cuff set with natural turquoise...

This wonderful, very bright pair of Georgian paste earrings are circa 1800. Just purchased in London, they are a superb example of Georgian paste.

The paste stones, originally designed to copy diamonds are now viewed as an art form, with world-wide collectors. The clear pastes are white and reflective, foil back and set in hand crimped silver collets. The use of foil in stones closed in the back adds a brilliance as well as a mellow hue. It is especially beautiful in the evening light...

This is an antique Regency, 18 karat gold quizzing glass. During this period, the use of a hand held lens became a fashion accessory, not limited to poor vision. Eyeglasses were deemed unfashionable, and the well dressed woman would wear this 'socially acceptable' item on a long ribbon or chain. The term "quizzing" was used as the wearer would look quizzically with a stare or glance.

The vast majority of these were cast and made in heavy plated gold...

This beautiful 14k (tested) rose gold pin has a floral and crescent moon motif (a crescent moon is the symbol for the female principal, intuition and new beginnings), accented by 10 rose cut diamonds in closed-back settings. The diamonds are erratically cut, which is typical of the era, and they sparkle nicely. It has 2 makers marks: an oak leaf in an oval, and the letters “JR” and possibly another that is illegible; no hallmarks. It measures 1-1/2 x ¾”...

This lovely (unmarked but tested) 10kt gold jewel is from the early 1800s (around Jane Austen's time), when cannetille work was the vogue: very fine gold wires twisted into thin ropes and then formed into rosettes and whatnot. The amethyst is a lovely delicate shade, and weighs approximately 2.5 carats – it’s very deep. Amethysts are said to bring calm, help banish headaches, and protect against drunkenness. The bale is decorated very prettily...

This wonderful Georgian ring could have been worn by one of Jane Austen’s more well-to-do characters! It features a rose-cut diamond (pointed top instead of flat), set in 14 or 15 carat gold with decorations in black enamel on the shank, which are still in excellent condition. Diamond is the birthstone for April. The ring is approximately a size 5. It isn’t possible to estimate the weight of set rose cut diamonds; it is in the I range for clarity – normal for its era...

This striking jewel tests as at least 14k. It is set with what I believe is an iolite, and 4 pear-shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling decorated gold ropes and leaves. It is graced with two gold dangling chains. The brooch measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep and weighs 8.7g/.31oz. With the chains, the whole piece measure 2-1/2” long. Brilliant and glistening foiled diamonds were hand cut and polished with each stone individually shaped and set. For this "all by hand" method, no two stones are exactly the same in shape or size. This fact is important in determining the age of antique jewelry and one reason why Georgian jewelry is desired. All diamonds are set in pinched rub-over settings. The center oval gem is freely suspended and gives gentle movement to the earring catching the light. These are delicious earrings in a ...

It is difficult to translate the level of craftsmanship of this early 18th century ring, undoubtedly created by a master jeweler. It has a central cabochon sapphire set in a silver rub over collet replicating a flower bud. The shoulders are each a flower form mirror image and are each set with small rose cut diamond. The silver work is so finely rendered it melds with the gold below it. Tiny accent of gold "bullets" top the flower formations. The underside too is beautiful, with the characteris...

These crystal and gold earrings are mesmerizing, reflecting light with every movement. Made in France, circa 1840 they are designed with long, finely faceted crystal drops each with a scalloped, engraved 18k mount.

The top is a spherical faceted crystal fitted with new 18k shepherd hooks. The earrings measure 2 1/2 inches long X 5/8 inches across the bottom. Notice the fine tapering of the crystal and the unusual pattern of facets.

The condition is excellent. They are light on th...
