I have just returned from a buying trip to Paris where this wonderful 800 silver and vermeil chain, circa 1900 was purchased. It is designed with twisted silver wire connected with horizontal bands of rose gold vermeil. The chain has an unusual design, and I have never had another like it. It is quite beautiful worn alone or with other mixed metal chains.
It measures 60 inches long X 1/8 inches wide and can be doubled or tripled around the neck...
Spending a day in Paris and locating this chain was indeed a pleasure. It is French, circa 1900 and is designed with rectangular niello plaques joined by rose gold links.
Niello is the process of using alloys of copper, silver, sulphur and lead, fusing them, and then inlaying on incised metals. The patterns created are subtle and beautiful...

Condition: the brooch is in very good condition for its age, it is not marked.

Sterling silver sets and separates one wiggly agate from the other in this, one of the most rare forms in Scottish Agate jewelry. The snake, completely original, created c. 1860 was made by the jeweler. first by designing the silver in its serpentine form. Chiseling the agates was no simple feat as they are sculpted to curve and fit within their silver boundaries. The stones are rich with natural color...
This splendid antique brooch of 900-hallmarked silver is of a style enjoyed through much of the Victorian era -- and particularly in the 1850s and 1860s, when the construction and gala opening of the Suez Canal drew Europeans' attention to such Middle Eastern design motifs as the crescent. It may even have been fashioned in Egypt, since the 900 silver mark was commonly used there (as well as in some nations of Continental Europe)...

This sweet, heavily engraved pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, probably for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina...
Weird but wonderful, and SO Victorian! Here is a grooming chatelaine from sometime in the 1800s – very hard to put a more specific age to this. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements, a tweezers, an ear-cleaning device, and a third implement for cleaning nails. (We just saw a similar chatelaine on eBay that was advertised as a device for opium users.) It tests positive for silver, but is unmarked and with a patina consistent with age. It is lacking a be...
This Victorian pin is a gorgeous Egyptian Revival design with a vulture rendered in gilded silver and plique a jour. The wings are yellow-green plique shading to burnt orange. Wing tops are opaque enamel in yellowish green. The pin is centered with a matching stone which is to date [and probably forever] unidentified. It is not peridot, nor is it glass. The pin is 2" across and is circa 1880.
