The art of "metales casados" (mixed or married metals) was practiced by several Taxco workshops yet I think Victoria was its queen. Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti combined copper, silver and brass not only to design exquisite jewelry but also hollowware of various kinds and decorative objects. In the necklace presented here she seems to be inspired by Egyptian Revival motifs which is not unusual for her - there are at least a couple of other parures she created that tread that same path...

This unusual bracelet is cleverly hand-built from cast circular elements, each riveted to the next. The rivets allow the circular pieces to move as on a hinge, and each is connected at an angle to accommodate a comfortable fit on the wrist. The box clasp is sturdy and secure, with a figure-eight safety catch. Although the circular elements are hollow, the bracelet has a good heft and has a Constructivist aesthetic. It is probably from the 1970s. The clasp is marked 925 for sterling silver...
We have an obsidian stone Mask brooch that exhibits an exceptional gold sheen. The brooch is 2 in. by 1.5in. Signed RB and with eagle 3. The carving has no chips, cracks or damage. The gold sheen obsidian is getting harder to obtain today and this is a beauty. The silver work on the head dress is exemplary. It was difficult to get a picture of the sheen with my camera. The lighter color is the reflection from light casting on the sheen.

One of the most beautiful early Taxco brooches I have had over the years, this glorious butterfly combines delicate repoussage and the marrying of copper and 980 silver with a richly colored piece of azur-malachite. Copper-plating fine silver is not something everything would think to do - after all, one is a precious metal, the other, though very important throughout history, is not. The Mexicans, however, at least some of them, the famous Los Castillo included, seemed to have found the techniq...
