Straddling the divide between Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts design, this hinged sterling silver buckle bracelet was, I believe, made in the USA based on its hallmarking. The entire surface of the front "wing" is etched with ivy leaves, a motif beloved by the Victorians it seems, while the back is left blank, as is usually the case with bracelets of this type...

Marked Rebajes, sterling
Excellent condition
Unsigned and astonishing on. Tested for sterling and then some. The S swirls are repousse and large at 1.75in. long. The total weight is 81 grams heavy. The silver feels buttery soft and it has a dark natural patina that defines how wonderful this old work of art is. All hand made and follows a Patania Sr. feel when on. Because it is unmarked I have to put into a category to list. I believe it is either Old Mexican or an old Southwestern necklace. Just fabulous, LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!
The William Spratling Vindobonensis bracelet is deeply hand carved giving depth and dimension to each thick link. The length is 7 in. It stands 1.25 in. tall and weighs in at 109 grams heavy. Made for a man as well as a woman and is a pleasure to wear.
