This is a spectacular set of necklace, pin, and earrings which were produced 1930's - early 1940's in Mexico. The design is one which originated from Fred Davis, and also one which is very seldom seen. This set does not bear the FD mark from Davis, but is simply hallmarked "Silver Made in Mexico"...

Circa early 1940's, this is a superb slinky chain bracelet from William Spratling. It's a heavy handwrought piece, with a closed, wearable length of 7 1/2" and a width of 7/8". Classy and elegant, and feels fabulous on the wrist. Signed and hallmarked with the WS Print Circle "Spratling Made in Mexico WS", and Spratling Silver. Weight is 115.2 grams. Excellent vintage condition, collector quality. Silver tested to be 98% purity.

Symbols of fertility, rebirth, transformation and even immortality snakes and serpents have been favorite jewelry motifs through the centuries and across civilizations. In this Mexican Deco demi signed by the Los Castillo they are formed by silver, copper and brass, their slick bodies coiled around shimmering golden sheen obsidian. This is one of the best examples of the technique I have seen by the Los Castillo - probably because I love snake jewelry...

I have written in the past that Elna jewelry is more often than not very generous in proportions but this stunner of a bracelet goes above and beyond that! It is not just its sheer monumentality that impresses. It is also the classically "archaeological" character of the design itself which is expressed by the carved stone "mask" of an ancient Aztec Eagle warrior. Awesome in its military magnificence, the portrait is flanked by highly stylized butterfly (?) links with big cabochons set in bezels...

Two different sizes of sterling silver barrel beads adorned with a myriad of hand-made florets in the Etruscan style make up this generously long Mexican lariat necklace from the pre-1948 period. I am very partial to long necklaces and lariats are a small obsession of mine. When I am lucky enough to come upon an Etruscan example as the one presented here, my heart skips a beat...

This sculpturally stunning cuff was designed by Spratling during the rare(1949-51) period when he signed his work SPRATLING De MEXICO STERLING. Spratling marries rich, carved azur malachite and heavy sterling silver to beautiful effect. Weighing 85 grams the cuff stands 2" high at the front tapering to 1" at back. The interior length is 5 3/4" plus 1 1/4" opening. The piece is in beautiful condition...

Hallmarks date this Hector Aguilar pin 1940-1945.

It's a book-piece design, with a slightly different version shown in "Silver Masters of Mexico". Highly detailed and whimsical in appearance, it's a large stately piece. Collector quality.

Measures 4 3/8" x 3 3/8".

Weight is 27.2 grams.

Signed and hallmarked with a conjoined HA, Sterling, and Made in Mexico.

Circa 1930's, this Fred Davis pin is very striking, with a design which I've not seen previously. The craftsmanship is superb with exquisite repoussé silver work. Measures 2 11/16" tall, 2" wide. Weight is 25.3 grams. Signed and hallmarked with a conjoined FD Made in Mexico Silver. In excellent vintage condition. Pin closes with a simple early spiral C clasp, and is very secure.

This bracelet is the work of Horatio de la Parra, whose company Plateria Azteca produced hollowware for both William Spratling and Hector Aguilar.

This pin from Los Castillo dates 1940-1945. It's an early piece, likely designed by Margot van Voorhies Carr while she was married to Antonio Castillo. It's a beautiful repoussé sterling silver pin with an oval amethyst cabochon surrounded by tiny silver beading. A floral design with exquisite detailing, this pin measures 3 1/16" wide, 1 1/2" tall. One of the Mexican designs inspired by Far Eastern cultures, the koi fish are a signature creation of Margot de Taxco and the Los Castillo yet its popularity prompted many of their "less celebrated" or anonymous contemporary maestros to come up with their own versions of it. And thankfully so because one can now find a beautiful example by a talented maker without having to break the bank - or at least not in a truly dramatic way! The all-silver necklace at hand is just such a welcome find...

I know and admire maestro C. Molina's work for its superb craftsmanship and its monumentality but I was still not prepared for this set of stupedying dangle earrings! There is big, there is massive and then, there is the pair of shadowbox stunners I am presenting here tonight...

This pre-1948 bracelet from Fred Davis is collector quality and a larger than life showpiece.

Composed of five huge oval amethyst cabochons framed within silver, the panels have a geometric design inspired by pre-Columbian clay stamps which Davis collected.

Stunning and very substantial vintage Chinese bracelet with five sections connected by hinges, in gold washed silver filigree backed with solid silver panels, each with a charming carved genuine apple jade Buddha figure. Not marked but tests positive for sterling silver. Circa 1940. It weighs 71 grams. With a slide clasp and safety chain. Beautiful silver filigree bracelet with 8 panels each featuring a different figure in carved and painted bone. Marked CHINA, circa 1930. With a slide clasp. It tests positive for at least 900 silver.
