Battery necklace, strung on cotton string, circa 1940's. May have been restrung at some point, which is not uncommon. Often the original string broke. Unusual in that the beads are a light weight hand cut gypsum. They have a little grey matrix running through the stone, and in good light a bit of sparkle. This one is a rare one due to the beads. A charming pair of Santo Domingo Pueblo screwback earrings made for sale to the tourists at the railroad stops. These are a typical example from the 1940's or 1950's. The earrings are made of found materials - battery case or 78 rpm records (black), plastic spoons and forks (red and white), and real turquoise.
