From the collection of anthropologist and former southwestern primitive arts dealer Lorenzo Gordon Fritz, the two individually priced strands of African trade beads are the same types that were traded to the North American tribes in the later 1800s to early 1900s period. Both in very good condition with a few dings, nicks and stain, and good representative examples of the type, the Chevron bead necklace (LFG416) is 21” in length with 69 four-layer beads plus one six layer bead, while the Russian... A huge 2 1/4 inches across and 1 3/4 inches in height this is a gorgeously detailed necklace. The center medallion is carved carnelian in the design of a large vase of flowers. This stunning, delicate necklace consists of two side sections of eleven needlepoint stones with four elongated stones set on the top, and the center section has fifteen needlepoint stones with five elongated stones set along the top (essentially, the same stones just set on their side for artistic effect).
The wonderful thing about these older needlepoint Zuni necklaces is that they can be worn full length, where they lie lower on the chest, or the hook can be inserted into one of the circl... Click for details

It's difficult to photograph this charming set and do it justice. The earrings were originally screw backs and have been converted by putting them on to wearable contemporary sterling wires. The tipi pendant is on its original sterling chain with older clasp.
Guaranteed to get comments and oohs and aahs, this set looks adorable when worn. And it's trickier work than you'd think, lacing the silver wire through the stamped sheet silver to craft these delicate little pieces.
I've left them ... Click for details

You can tell a lot about a good old squash by looking at its backside. Look at the first photo, for example. It's instantly obvious that these are all handmade beads by the way the holes blow outward and the seaming is done to put the halves together. But most importantly, note the way there are four smaller beads at the very bottom where the strands meet the squash. The silversmith took the time to fit nestle those in there, rather than cut corners and just have loose foxtail, so it would look ... Click for details

It is composed of seven convex rectangular panels, which are joined by cylindrical silver connectors. Each panel depicts an iconic image—either that of an Inca god or a mythological creature—that has been rendered using precision hand cutwork, piercing, tooling, and incising.
