In fact, Turtle is even able to defy death. As such, he stands for long life, as well as strength and perseverance. Perhaps I should say "she," instead of "he," since the Turtle fetish is associated with feminine power.

This 28-inch multi-strand necklace, obviously hand-crafted, dates from the 1920s. Iridescent green glass beads add vivid accents to the sophisticated white and black pattern that finishes with a 3 ½-inch fringed tassel. It's in lovely condition. Silver beads accent black glass ones in this Art Deco period necklace - obviously hand-beaded, probably in New Mexico for the lively tourist trade of the 1920s. It measures 27” long with a 2 ½ ” fringed tassel. A similar necklace is shown on page 85 of "Collectible Costume Jewelry ID and Value Guide" by S. Sylvia Henzel and valued at $175.00.
