This large, antique Scottish agate silver brooch is circa 1880. It is a traditional design called a penannular, or split ring, and was used to adorn the tartans.
Queen Victoria's love of Balmoral Castle, and the traditions of its people was equally matched by the enthusiasm of the populace. If the Queen wore Scottish jewelry, so did the people. Thus this industry grew and some wonderful pieces of jewelry were cre... Click for details

Lovely, unusual Scottish agate brooch, circa 1860. The design is quite beautiful and looks like a pinwheel of woven colors. Intricate and tedious work, this is an artistic brooch and very much in keeping with the distinctive work of this art form. Each piece of agate is cut and placed on slate and then mounted in a custom silver frame. The frame is simply to secure the stones, not to enhance the beauty, or to detract the viewer. It is in fine condition with natural inclusions to the surface of two... Click for details

Four rows of bud-like links give this particular silver necklace dramatic appeal. It is the widest Birmingham collar we have discovered. Each link is etched with a small bud or star. Versatile and reversible, the bud design was a popular Victorian motif. The woven look of horizontal links on the reverse is simple in comparison and makes reference to the industrial Revolution. Symmetry and proportion give this collar grand presence. It is the widest Victorian necklace we have owned. Admirers a... Click for details

This striking brooch is just lovely! It has a curvy flowing flower, a poppy perhaps, mounted on a mother of pearl oval. The flower is silver plate, and is worn in places (I find that the worn places serve as highlights). The mother of pearl is convex, giving the piece a dimensional look. The photos don’t do justice to the MOP’s rainbow colors. It measures 1-3/4” x 1-3/8”. The pin assembly is mounted on a base metal plaque, and is of the old style. It rattles a little, but is firmly in place. I b... Click for details
