This oil on linen is a subtle topical examination of rabbis in study and camaraderie in synagogue, most likely in Warsaw.

Konstantin Szewczenko (1915-1991) was born in Warsaw, Poland, studied at the Warsaw Academy of Arts, and participated in international exhibitions. He is very well known for painting Jewish genre and rabbinical scenes.
