In what is likely the original frame, this large pastel seascape is by Francesco Spicuzza, Italian/American (1883-1962). The pastel measures 19" x 25 3/4" and the frame is 1 3/8" wide. The framers label on the back is from Wisconsin. With rich color in both the sea and sky, with sunlight on the water, and a ship in the distance, the work demonstrates Spicuzza's fine sense of color and impressionistic style...

Signed indistinctly in the lower right corner, the name appears to be E.S. Kulnic, E. Skolnic or E.S.Rolnic. A darker pastel (the camera's flash reveals it better), the picture is framed under glass. There is one small hole in the paper, adjacent the moon but hardly noticeable in the overall scheme of things. Not examined out of the frame. Picture measures 11-1/2" x24"; the frame, 15-1/2" x 27".
