A finely painted portrait miniature, on natural wafer, of a bespectacled officer of the 7th Bengal Native Infantry of the Honourable East India Company. Done in vibrant colors and wonderful; detail, the work can be strongly attributed to Raja Jivan Ram. Works from this period in this style by Indian artists are quite uncommon and highly collected. More specifically, very few works by Ram are in private hands.

The painting here is in overall excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or bowing...

A very interesting portrait on organic material. Engraving on the reverse of the case provides the following information "Captain William Oakley died 30 January 1811, Aged 71". The reverse also has a glazed aperture. Oakley is dressed in a Royal Navy or East India Company uniform. The pinchbeck case, although somewhat later than when the portrait was done, itself deserves special mention, with beautiful cobalt enameling and pearls, all set in a gold surround...

A French portrait miniature of a woman done in watercolor on natural material. The sitter, clearly a woman of means,is dressed in au courant fashion in an elaborate white lace hat, a blue ribbon at her throat, and a white lace fichu over her blackish green dress.

On the backing of the painting is written in ink (at the time the painting was done) in French, the name of the sitter "Antoinette Francoise Garison," some other information, and that she was born on September 20, 1773 (see photo #4)...

An extremely early portrait done in watercolor on wafer. Miniatures from this period are very uncommon and highly desirable. The sitter, set against a blue and cloud filled sky, is wearing a blue uniform jacket with gilt-edged black lapels, and a breast piece displaying the two headed Prussian eagle.

Condition is excellent, with no issues to speak of. The Sight size is 1 7/8" by 1 1/2", and the size of the original bronze case is 2 1/8" by 1 7/8".
