A very fine miniature portrait painting, on natural wafer, of a handsome young gentleman with long blond hair and hazel eyes. He is nattily attired in a black coat with a patterned vest and a boldly reddish and blue striped tie with a long stickpin. He is proudly displaying some kind of honorary or fraternal pin hanging from his left lapel.
The miniature is in a cast foliate case. The reverse of the case is elaborately chased, and has a glazed aperture which contains a lock of hair...

An interesting naive miniature portrait of a young man, done in watercolor on natural wafer, and in a 14K gold locket. The bewhiskered sitter is wearing a black coat, white shirt and collar. The strong blue background is a wonderful contrast with the portrait. The painting is signed on the right side: "1816 Dixon."
The miniature is in excellent condition, with no issues. The gold case is in fine condition, but does have some unimportant dents on the reverse, above the glazed aperture...

The young lad, who is holding a red book, is wearing a blue jacket, a striped vest over a white shirt with a flared collar wide open at the neck. He has an earring in his ear. Because of the style clothing, and the earring, this would be a portrait of a ship's cabin boy. It is very unusual to find such a painting as cabin boys would not have the money to pay for it...
