Isaac Van Oosten, Flemish, 1613-1661,Attribution. Stunning Flemish/Dutch, 16-17th C. Oil on copper. This piece is in excellent condition. The in-frame dimensions are 38" W x 30" H while the painting itself measures 28 1/4" W x 20 1/4" H. The amazing frame is from the 19th Century and showcases the beauty of the piece. The subject matter is Venus (in her Half Shell chariot pulled by doves) finding Adonis dead after the hunt she begged him not to go on.

Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands...
