Charming small round painting in the original gold wood frame, 9 1/2" diameter as framed, the subject given on the reverse of the board in the artist's own handwriting: "Heilige Nacht in Villingen" ("Holy Night in Villingen"), also, "N. gem. v. Albert Sager" ("painted/executed by Albert Sager") signed there including the artist's most unusual monogram which includes the date of execution, 1922. That monogram is also incised carefully in the wet paint on the front side at right...

Original antique European Alpine Village winter scene oil painting by Anton Doll (1826 - 1887. Oil on canvas signed lower left noted painted in Munich framed in original gold gilt frame.
Anton Doll began studying law in Munich, before he turned towards painting. In 1852, he became a member of the Munich Art Association that had exhibited his paintings from very early on. Doll was influenced by Carl August Lebschée and Adolf Stademann, and his main subject was the city of Munich...

Old Master Style Still Life
Oil on Panel, signed
Provanance: Noortman Master Paintings, Maastrick
Painting: 9.75" x 7.25"
Frame: 16" x 13.75"
A circa 1920 oil on canvas of apples and sprigs of blossoms on a tabletop, 18" by 27 1/2" (26" by 36" in original frame), signed at right center "A. Landsberger" (or, many variations thereof could be possible). The signature, in red in old Germanic hand, is on top of an apparently older, incised signature that is quite different (and, very difficult to make out). The work is very nicely executed by a trained hand, and is in excellent antique condition, with no tears or flaking...
Old painting, 8 1/4" by 6 3/4" (16 1/2" by 15" framed), circa 1870, unsigned, the subject a young girl with blonde hair and intense blue eyes standing in a courtyard or patio area in front of a dwelling, a curious cat peering from the entrance seen at left. The girl is dressed in traditional picturesque clothing of the time...
An interesting abstract painting dating to about 1960, created by a German artist, Max Hansen (1898-). The work, oil and perhaps another substance mixed in, applied on canvas laid on panel, measures 25" by 13 1/2" and 30 1/2" by 19 1/2" in the original gray framing. This was acquired from a local family of German heritage, who stated that it was brought to Southern California from Germany more than 50 years ago. Family stated that the artist was "Uncle Max"----Max Hansen, born in 1898...
Oil on board still life painting of colorful flowers, 23 1/2" by 23 1/2" (26" by 26" as framed), signed at lower left with stylized initials. The artist is Max Hansen, born 1898. This was acquired from a local family who related that it was painted in Germany by their relative. The work is nicely painted by an obviously talented hand. Condition is very good. Frame is wood.
A well-painted work featuring an interior, perhaps a residence, perhaps a restaurant or other public space, a table with fruit in a bowl, a chair, and sofa filling the space. The oil on canvas, 17 1/2" by 21" (20 1/2" by 24" in old frame, likely the original), is signed somewhat indecipherably at lower left and dated there "Berlin 1909". The name appears at first glance to be "B. Geis(xxxx)" or "B. Geism(xxxx)"...
Oil on canvas on board, 18" by 27", unframed, signed at lower left by artist OSWALD SCHLOMBS (1876-1926), and titled in pencil on reverse "Herbst" ("autumn", in German). The artist though listed is not well known, though obviously talented...
A circa 1910 small oil on canvas landscape of a forest pond, signed at lower right "O. Sch". This 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" work (9 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed) came from a local family of German heritage. Their art, some of which I acquired, came with the family from the old country. This work has some condition issues, as the canvas over the decades has buckled, with sharp horizontal roughly parallel "ridges" now apparent, as well as craquelure...
An extensive country landscape featuring rolling fields and meadows, the evidence of man including a dirt road, fence posts, and distant house, as chickens forage at center right. The oil on canvas, 22" by 25" work (27" by 30 1/2" framed) is signed at lower left by listed German artist OTTO MARX (1887-1962)...
PAIR of circa 1880 oil landscapes on panel, each 10 1/4" by 18 3/4" (15 3/4" by 24 1/2" in modern frames). The images of lakeside castles are classic 19th century European art. Small sail boats, feathery trees and ancient stone bridges complete the scenes. Each is signed with monogram like "A M" or "S M". I considered these might be by the famed German painter Adolph Menzel but think that unlikely. The old beveled wood panels on which they are painted likely date to the 1880's or thereabou...
Oil on canvas painting of a traditional German house or cottage in a forested landscape, 20" by 28" on the stretchers, 23" by 31" as framed, signed at lower right by artist "M. Lichtmann" and dated there 1920. The painting is beautifully executed, though there is very little information on the artist. There is stable craquelure, and a slight drip of foreign matter at center left, though the painting can be placed on the wall as-is.
Oil on masonite portrait of a classic man of Bavaria with his traditional hat and shirt, 15 1/2" by 14" (23 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed), signed at upper left corner and dated 47 by the well listed German artist ANDREAS MITTERFELLER (1912-1972). The artist created traditional horizontal format landscape works which appear frequently at auction in Germany, but I see only a very few portraits or genre works in the records. On the reverse appears a lot of information: the name of the artist again, da...
Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a vase in an interior space, 23 1/2" by 25 3/4", signed at lower right by German artist ROLF REGELE (1899-1987). Regele was a student of Rudolf Stolz, and he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He painted generally landscapes of the Tirol region of Austria and Italy, as well as still life. During the 1930's his paintings were often reproduced full size and on post cards. The artist settled in Bolzano in the Tyrolean Alps, in the border area of ...
This painting is something of a mystery, in that it depicts a fantastic classic castle on a hill, obviously in the Old World, a donkey pulling a card in the foreground......yet, there is a modernity to the work, especially in the somewhat cubist handling of the lines of the architecture, but, also, there's modernity in the entire structure of the image. Painted on an old board, this measures 26" by 18" (30" by 22" in a modern frame). The painting is signed at lower right "M. Lieberman" and is ...
