This is a mid 19th century painting of a young girl in a beautiful landscape setting. It is painted on academy board which measures 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" and is mounted in a beautiful carved frame which appears to be original to the painting. The frame measures 18" x 16". This could be a early American folk art portrait depicting a memorial to the young lady. She is holding in her hand some grapes on a vine and this is a symbol of Christian redemption...

This portrait was purchased in Georgia from the West Family. The owner had been a partner in the Law Firm King and Spaulding. The portrait appears to be of a Lawyer or a Justice. This high quality portrait measures 20" x 16". It has been relined. We are researching this painting and will advise progress later. Our research indicates that this is a portrait of a young Joseph Story(1779-1845). This portrait is painted in the style of Gilbert Stuart.
