Charles DeWolf Brownell, American, 1802-1909, "St. John's Spire, Hartford, Connecticut". This is a very rare early view of Hartford, Connecticut. Oil on tin, 6 1/4 x 8 inches, c. 1860s, in a period 19th. C. gilt frame. An inscription in pencil on the back reads, "St John's Spire, Hartford, Conn". Although this is unsigned, we attribute this landscape to Charles DeWolf Brownell, whose style is very similar. It is well painted with very fine brushwork and details.
