Watercolor and ink on paper, 7 1/4" by 9 1/4", (13 1/2" by 15 1/2" in gold color metal frame), the subject a blue-striped lighthouse and keeper's home adjacent, signed at base of that lighthouse by California watercolor artist RITCHIE ALLEN BENSON (1941-1996). This is a nicely executed work and it is in excellent, fresh condition with no foxing nor water staining. Benson was born in the Los Angeles area and died in Washington state, but there is limited biographical information on him...

A total of FOUR watercolor paintings, framed as pairs, in two frames, each watercolor 10" by 4 7/8", each frame 17 3/4" by 17 3/4". All of the watercolors are signed at lower left with initials "FD". Judging from the scenes, these are likely Northern European and of late nineteenth century date. Condition is excellent, one frame has a little nick at top right. Some research may help determine the identity of the artist.

One of a number of fine Bermuda watercolors in my shop, this is a work featuring white-roofed houses on the water, several small boats visible at left, and yucca at right. The work measures 6 1/4" by 13 3/4" and 16" by 23 1/2" including old gilded oak frame and gold mat typical of the period. The artist signed at lower left "A. T. Smith" and wrote "Bermuda '95" at lower right. I do not see information on an artist by this name. Nineteenth century Bermuda views are scarce and desirable...

Old (possibly 19th century, early 20th at latest) American watercolor painting of a small cove and beach, unsigned, 9" by 12 5/8" inside the present mat (13" by 16 3/4" in modern framing), with some experimental sketching by the artist on the reverse. On that side he/she wrote "Aug. 19 water deeper, especially in the curve". The drawing is by a talented hand which unfortunately did not sign it. Could be as early as 1880's, as late as about 1930 I would imagine...

A fine, interesting mixed media (watercolor/white gouache) drawing, 10 1/4" by 12 1/2", (13 3/4" by 16 3/4" framed) titled on reverse "Old House and Horse", signed in pencil lower right by well-known, well listed American artist JOHN GRABACH (1886-1981). An old framer's label from Newark, NJ remains on the backing. Grabach grew up in Newark, New Jersey, progressing over the years with his art until he came to be a leader of the Newark School...

A very finely crafted watercolor painting of an 18th century dandy in an elegant aristocratic interior, " by " (" by " framed), dedicated "Yours Sincerely" at lower right, and signed rather illegibly below that. The work's quality means the artist must be listed but try as I might, I cannot decipher the name. More than likely the work is circa 1890. Condition is excellent. I opened the old backing in hopes of finding more information or writing but there was none to be found...

A finely painted work titled at lower right "Culebra Range, Colo.", signed at lower left by artist CARROLL COLBY CHILD (1868-1932). The Culebra Range is in extreme southern Colorado, very near the New Mexico border and not far from Taos. It is noted for Culebra Peak, the southernmost of the so-called "Fourteeners" (Rocky Mountain peaks of at least 14,000 feet summit elevation)...

A charming antique watercolor in monochromatic gray tones, the sheet 8 1/4" by 13 1/2", mounted to a blue-gray card 11" by 16" with hand drawn mat lines. There is no signature. A guess as to the date of execution could be anywhere from late 18th century to about 1820. There is some watermark in the paper. The drawing exhibits some of the faults that a piece of paper 200 years old might acquire.....light brownish discoloration in spots, small torn area at bottom center, small edge tear at upp...

This is a beautiful impressionist still life of pink roses in a glass pitcher, signed at lower left in Cyrillic and dated 1994 by the noted Ukrainian artist VASILY PONIKAROV (1929-). Measuring 26" by 18 3/4" (33" by 26" as framed in pink metal frame and matching mat), it is a powerfully impressionistic work by a master of watercolor art. Attractive, vintage watercolor painting of colorful flowers in a sunny garden, measuring 9 1/2" by 14" (16" by 21" framed). This lovely work is apparently unsigned--I have opened the backing to peer inside and see neither signature nor any other information besides numbers in pencil. The painting does have some age. A watercolor painting of pine or cypress trees on the coast, perhaps a place like Carmel or Santa Barbara, measuring 14 3/4" by 18 3/4" (20" by 23 1/2" framed). The work is unsigned, (I have opened it up to peek inside, no writing anywhere) and judging from the framing it could date to the 1970's or 1960's. The artist used quality Arches paper (see blind stamp of same). The painting is clean and problem-free; over the years it has slipped inside its mat so will have to be probably re-affixed.

Fine watercolor on paper drawing of a dirt road or track in a country landscape, signed at lower left by the listed American artist NEIL REID MITCHILL (sometimes misspelled as "Mitchell") 1858-1934. Mitchill was born in New York and was painting in nearby Connecticut by the 1890's, where he is credited with being the first resident artist of Westport (which went on to become a 20th century art colony of sorts).
