This painting measures 27" by 47", painting alone and 34" by 54" in its original frame. It is signed and dated 72 l.r. Provenance: from the artist's personal collection. Robert Lohman was a sculptor and a painter. He studied at John Herron Art Institute, at Cranbrook under Carl Milles, and at Yale. He was director of Fine Arts at Cranbrook from 1947 to 1949...

This is a copy of the 17th century portrait of Rembrandt's son Titus around 1668. The canvas has been relined and is mounted in its original stretcher. The frame is a old replacement frame. The original portrait of Titus by Rembrandt is in the Lourve. We will try to determine the age of the canvas and more information later.

Though unsigned, the painting is clearly the work of a talented artist and is reminiscent of the work of Julian Alden Weir. The coloring is sophisticated and the perspective and reflections in the water are perfectly accomplished. The canvas remains on its original stretcher. The town is clearly identifiable from the distinctive town ramparts and tower in the background. In the foreground, Breton women in traditional dress gather to buy and sell foodstuffs while a few fisherman in small boats work at the shore.
