Nicolas Mignard, French, 1606-1668, "Athena Advises Odysseus". Etching by Nicolas Mignard after the frescoes of Annibale Carracci depicting scenes from Homer's Odyssey. Plate size 11 3/4 x 13 5/8 inches, published by Pierre Mariette in 1637, with lettering in Latin below the image. Printed on a very early watermarked laid type paper.
John Henry Hill, American, 1839-1922, "Two Men in a Sailboat in a Rough Sea". This is an atmospheric marine etching by J. Henry Hill, after the painting by Otis Weber. The image measures 14 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches, published in 1886 by Klackner, New York, pencil signed on the lower right margin. Hill came from a family of artists and became a well known landscape and marine painter keeping with the pre-raphaelite tradition, influenced by John Ruskin and David Johnson.

Original Pencil-Signed, Titled and Numbered Etching, #12/50. Signed and dated 1923 in plate. Minor silverfish damage at top right corner, at bottom center and just above the fire hydrant. There are also three stains, two of which are barely discernible. The noticeable on is atop the fire hydrant. Matting measures 15 1/2" x 21," sheet is 11" x 15 3/4," plate is 9 1/4" x 14 3/4."

This wonderful original Etching features one of Russia’s greatest 19th century artists, Vasily Ivanovich Surikov (1848-1916). It was executed by Alyona Dergilyova who is a graphic artist and illustrator based in Moscow. She is a well know listed Russian artist who became a member of the Moscow Artists Union in 1983.
This etching is titled in Cyrillic lower left; signed with initials in Cyrillic and dated 86 lower right...
